2020 Arboretum Volunteer Opportunities

Adopt‐a‐Plot in the Reflections Rose Garden: care for a specified area in the rose garden and provide routine garden maintenance.

Arbor Day: provide valuable assistance with the 29th annual celebration. (April 18, 2020)

Derby Day Planting Party: assist Horticultural staff with planting annuals and perennials to prepare for the 2020 season. (May 2, 2020)

Garden Guide Program Volunteer: give 1-hour tours of the Home Demonstration Garden, Fragrance Garden and Flight 5191 Memorial Rose Garden to small groups of visitors.

Hundred Acre 5K: provide valuable assistance with the 3rd annual event in support of our Horticultural Gardens.

Kentucky Children’s Garden (KCG) – KCG volunteer opportunities (all require a back ground check and training) are:

  • Celebrating the Seasons Event Volunteer: Staff stations and engage visitors in activities. (select dates in April, July and October)
  • Field Trip Volunteer: Use teaching skills to present information at a station during school field trips. (Tuesdays in April and May)
  • Greeter: Welcome and assist guests at the gates of the Kentucky Children’s Garden. (Wednesdays - Saturdays, April through October)
  • Model Train Operator: Maintain and operate the model trains in the Kentucky Children’s Garden. (Wednesdays - Saturdays, April through October)

Native Plants Volunteer: Work with the Native Plants staff to maintain the Walk Across Kentucky Collection and The Arboretum Woods on Thursdays from 10 am to 12 noon (throughout the year as weather permits). TEMPORARILY CANCELLED DUE TO COVID 19

Outreach Volunteer: Attend educational outreach events on behalf of The Arboretum.

StoryWalk Installer: Change the interpretive panels for the StoryWalk monthly (March through October).

Vegetable Garden Volunteers: Work with Horticultural staff to plant, maintain, harvest and help to educate visitors about vegetable gardening (Tuesdays from 10 am to 12 noon, throughout the year as weather permits). TEMPORARILY CANCELLED DUE TO COVID 19

Volunteer Committee: a new committee forming in 2020. Previous volunteer experience preferred.
