Lead Educator, Kentucky Children's Garden
The Arboretum is hiring a Lead Educator to work seasonally in the Kentucky Children's Garden. This is a seasonal, part-time position, working 32 hours per week. The primary weekly schedule will be Wednesday through Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Additional hours may be needed for events such as field trips.
Educator activities include:
- Developing and leading daily environmental education programs for children ages 2-10
- Planting and maintaining gardens
- Displaying a customer service orientation towards the public at all times
- Enforcing the rules and policies of the garden in a polite manner
- Working the entire season: March to early November
- Assisting the Education Coordinator in the development of outreach, events and other programs
- Maintaining and ensuring the daily rhythm of the Kentucky Children’s Garden including opening, closing, programming, train times, daily/weekly tasks and staff breaks.

Native Plants Collection Manager and Curator
The Arboretum is hiring a Native Plants Collection Manager and Curator to develop, expand, and deliver formal and informal educational programming about The Arboretum’s natural resources for the community and the campus. Effective communication, collaboration, and interaction with diverse audiences including volunteers, visitors, students and university research/teaching staff is required. The Curator will lead the advancement, growth, and promotion of our notable native plants collection in the Walk Across Kentucky and the Arboretum Woods, while also performing curatorial functions for our horticultural plantings. This is a permanent, full-time position.
Position Requirements:
- M.S. degree in a relevant field, or substantial experience in a similar position
- Naturalist and/or horticultural expertise
- Communication skills
Position Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement extension and other educational programming about native plants, conservation, and ecology
- Collaborate with UK Faculty, Staff, students, visitors, and volunteers to achieve our mission of education, conservation, and research
- Curate our collection of native plants and horticultural gardens
