STEPS Lead Educator in the Kentucky Children's Garden

Salary: $14.50-$16 per hour

Hours: 32 per week

Position runs March 26-November 2. You must be able to work the entire season. 

The successful applicant will have:

  • Personal or professional experience working with young children, gardening and/or customer service.
  • College-level coursework in early childhood development, horticulture and/or an environmental field.
  • An interest in the environment, plants, education, sustainability and/or outdoor activities.

Hours: 8 hours per week in spring and fall semesters, 32 hours per week in summer (May-August)

Position runs March-October

Intern responsibilities include: 

  • Perform seasonal landscape work including mowing, weeding, watering, mulching, pruning, planting, and invasive species management.
  • Assist with curatorial activities such as updating plant records and creating and maintaining plant labels.
  • Propagate native plants in the greenhouse and nursery. Care for native plant nursery.
  • Help scout for pests and diseases.

Student Intern - Education & Garden Assistant in the Kentucky Children's Garden

Salary: $14 per hour

Hours: 8-12 hours per week in spring and fall semesters; 28 hours per week in summer

Position runs April-October. You must be able to work the entire season, but scheduling is flexible during school year. 

Intern responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with and leading environmental education programs for children ages 2-10.
  • Planting and maintaining gardens.
  • Providing excellent customer service to all visitors.
  • Enforcing the rules and policies of the garden in a polite manner.

Position runs May-August

Intern responsibilities include:
